Trade in your ticket

When a pedestrian or cyclist does not obey the Highway Safety Code during a targeted operation, they have 7 days after receiving the ticket to make an appointment at the phone number on the back of the leaflet. The offender will then have to attend an information and prevention session on pedestrian or bicycle safety, as the case may be, to have their ticket cancelled.

The information and prevention session, which lasts approximately an hour and a half, includes an interactive portion to encourage participation. It is based on the road safety practices advocated by the SPVM Section sécurité routière and the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ). The sessions are offered by SPVM officers who confirm the attendance
of the participants in order to have their tickets cancelled by the Direction des poursuites pénales et criminelles.

If you attend the session, you do not have to pay the ticket. There is no possibility of a refund. But if you are unable to attend the information and prevention session, you will have to pay the ticket or file a not-guilty plea.

When you come to the session, please bring:

• The leaflet given to you by the police officer
• The ticket
• A photo ID

Pedestrians

• Obey traffic lights and pedestrian signals.
• Cross at intersections and pedestrian crossing.
• Make sure you have been seen, make eye contact.

Cyclists

• Come to a complete stop at stop signs and red lights.
• Ride as close as possible to the edge or right side of the roadway and in the same direction as traffic, taking into account the condition of the roadway and the risk of car dooring.
• Do not ride on the sidewalk.
• Make sure you have been seen, especially by drivers of heavy vehicles.
