Act to assist victims of criminal offenses and promote their recovery

In October 2021, the Quebec government adopted the Act to Assist Victims of Criminal Offenses and Promote Their Recovery (LAPVIC). Its purpose is to ensure the rights of victims of criminal offenses are respected and to provide better support for them.

This unified law includes, among other things, the implementation and dissemination of a service declaration and internal complaint and follow-up mechanisms for all police forces in Quebec.

Given that it is the duty of the SPVM to protect victims and offer them recourse should they be dissatisfied with our organization's services, we have adopted our own service declaration, which can be accessed on our website.

Moreover, the Bureau du service aux citoyens (BSC) will follow up on cases with the units in the event of a complaint. Upon receiving a complaint, the BSC will review it and forward it to the head of the concerned unit, who will respond within 30 working days.

Through this service declaration, the SPVM highlights the excellence of its police officers' work, who ensure the safety of the population every day.
