News from PDQ 1

15 march 2018

We are pleased to present to you Les nouvelles du PDQ 1 for the month of March 2018. This monthly newsletter is tailored to the citizens, partners and elected officials of the 5 municipalities served by Station 1, with whom we wish to share information regarding your priorities.

For the month of March, we are offering you some automobile safety tips. Studies have proven that, correctly wearing safety belts is vital to improving the safety of all occupants of motor vehicles.

Seat Belts

The safety belt is recognized as the best protective measure for people in cars. It reduces the risks by half of being killed or seriously injured during a collision and the Highway Safety Code requires all occupants to wear a safety belt, specifically those reserved for the seat that they occupy.

The driver’s responsibilities with passengers 16 years of age or younger

As it is the driver who must make sure that any passengers under 16 years of age buckle up, it is the driver who will get the fine and the demerit points if they are stopped and the occupants are not wearing safety belts. All persons aged 16 and over who do not wear a seat belt assume the penalties imposed by the Law.

Child seats

The Highway Safety Code requires that any child under63 cmmust be properly installed in a car seat. It is not their age, but their size in a seated position (from seat to top of head) that determines the need for a car seat. In a taxi or police vehicle not equipped with an adapted restraint system, the child must wear the safety belt, except if they are small and must be held by an adult.

Installing the Car Seat

It is important to always read the installation instructions provided by the manufacturer before using a restraint system for the first time. The centre of the back bench of the vehicle is generally considered to be the best place to install a car seat, as it offers maximum shock protection in the event of a collision.

Permanent provincial verification network

For residents wishing to have their child car seat checked, they can consult, free or for a small fee, a registered garage in the list of Réseau members.
