Pedestrians

Due to the high number of casualties in Montréal, the issue of pedestrian safety needs to be addressed in order to reduce the yearly rate of incidences. The SPVM has increased its involvement with pedestrians and drivers, mostly through two annual campaigns about pedestrian safety. (one in Spring, the other in Fall).

Did you know that... Certain pedestrian crossings are yellow and others are white?

These campaigns have played a huge role in the 40% reduction of incidences; the number of pedestrian deaths has dropped from 24 to 18, and serious injuries from 129 to 78.

We have been noticing a change in pedestrian behaviour, and hope that the trend continues!
