Motorcycle Helmet

A properly attached helmet that conforms to recognized standards

Motorcycle HelmetThe law stipulates that: any person on a motorcycle must wear a crash helmet that conforms to one of the following recognized standards of manufacture, sale, installation and use:

  1. CAN-3-D230 standard of the Canadian Standards Association
  2. DOT FMVSS 218 Standard of the U.S. Department of Transportation
  3. Specifications for Protective Headgear for Vehicular User Z90.1 Standard of American National Standard Institute
  4. Snell Memorial Foundation Standards
  5. British Standards Institute Standards
  6. ECE Regulation 22 of United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Standards

The crash helmet must have a symbol affixed by the manufacturer indicating that it conforms to manufacturing standards.

To meet regulations, a helmet must also respect the following standards of use. It must:

  1. be correctly adjusted, and firmly attached by a chin-strap;
  2. not have been modified, and it must not show signs of deterioration to its internal or external structures. (A driver can repaint the helmet.)
