Brigadiers scolaires

Lucille Tremblay, bridagière scolaireThe children who cross at busy intersections on the way to and from school can count on the protection of 521 brigadiers scolaires. The men and women who fulfil this role are 58 years old, on average. They protect Montréal youngsters at 521 school crossings around the territory.

Reporting to the commandant of the local poste de quartier, the brigadiers scolaires :

  • guide the children at intersections to prevent traffic accidents;
  • stop traffic using a portable stop sign if necessary;
  • teach the children to obey traffic safety rules;
  • pay attention to any loiterers around school property
  • alert 9-1-1 immediately if a child is injured, taking care of the child until the patrouilleurs or the ambulance arrives.
