Commission de la sécurité publique

The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) serves the population of the entire island of Montréal. Even though it comes under the responsibility of the central city, it answers to the Conseil d'agglomération made up of representatives from Montréal and the 15 other cities on the island. The SPVM therefore works with a permanent committee called the Commission de la sécurité publique (CSP) which is comprised of elected municipal officials and a representative of the Québec government.

At Commission meetings, which are chaired by Claude Trudel, various SPVM projects are studied to maximize the services offered to the public. The CSP has the power to make recommendations to the Comité exécutif and the Conseil d'agglomération. It also participated in the public review of the new service coverage plan leading to the next generation of neighbourhood policing. The Commission also submits recommendations concerning budget forecasts and receives the SPVM's annual report.
