Our goals

The team at PDQ 8 works to maintain security in its territory, in compliance with the SPVM's global priorities. To this end, the team has established these objectives for 2010.

Provide police visibility to foster direct, regular contact with the public

  • Reduce the rate of crime, antisocial behaviour and local problems in the public domain, especially in parks.
  • Cadet foot patrols during festivals. Visits to retailers for prevention consultation.
  • Police Officer and Cadet bicycle patrols during summer, with a goal of ensuring visibility and problem resolution, mainly in parks and through dialogue with the various peoples in the parks.
  • Foot patrols by Police personnel on work teams and the MAP team with monthly targets in the framework of a broader plan for foot patrols for the year.

Increase antisocial behaviour operations

  • A reduction in the crime rate, incivilities and local problems in the public domain, specifically in parks.
  • Incivility complaints: start and follow-up files for every complaint with personal involvement by the persons in charge of the files. Plan operations targeted to stop prioritized incivilities. Identification of weekly priority targets. This approach involves a return visit to each plaintiff.
  • Involvement of MAP personnel, bicycles and 5 Units.
  • Take action against graffiti: coordinate efforts to eliminate graffiti and scratchiti in collaboration with the district committee and managing graffiti artist follow-ups.

Maintain efforts against street gang crime

  • Reduce the crime rate, incivilities and local problems in the public domain, specifically in parks.
  • Installation of the "Solstice" Operation in the Duff Court and St-Pierre targeted zones. Objective: strong Police presence, visibility and participation in crime fighting operations in collaboration with SIJP/MAS by confirming the  information from citizen complaints.
  • Maintain excellent quality of life and security for youth in schools. Présence constante des sociocommunautaires et policiers dans les écoles aux périodes ciblées.
  • Hold annual meetings in Secondary 1 classrooms on the theme of street gangs.
  • Involvement in the preventive and integrated approach for dialogue with citizens and partners of the new district committee set up for the development and the quality of life in the St-Pierre district.

Continue operations to counter domestic violence

  • Reduce the risk of domestic violence.
  • Ensure the coordination of this file by a person responsible for the station. Development of a registry and a follow-up for files involving repeat conjugal violence offenders.
  • Set-up of obligatory location history and add the VC suspects to a board of subjects of interest.
  • Participation in a conjugal violence round table.

Enforce driver compliance with the Highway Safety Code

  • Improve the road safety record and help increase the level of safety on our roads.
  • Prevention activities: hold «Sièges d'enfants» clinics and release columns in the local media as well as awareness meetings on drinking and driving for secondary V graduates.
  • Complaints: ensure a systematic follow-up of each citizen or elected official complaint. Use of the corporate tools developed. The accent will be laid on the impact of our actions and follow-ups with the plaintiffs. Make a weekly priority target for all personnel.
  • Establishment of an annual calendar of road safety operations for the unit and include all personnel in planned operations.
  • Annual meetings with school brigadiers about involvement and competence in regards to student safety.

Reduce risky pedestrian behaviour

  • Reduce the risk for pedestrians to be the victim of a road accident.
  • Communication: inform people, via the local media, about risky pedestrian behaviours and what safety instructions to follow.
  • Dynamic awareness meetings in retirement communities to support the use of safe habits.
  • Participation in the district safety committee for better coordination of complaint follow-ups and noting the descriptions of neighbourhood infrastructure or signage problems.
  • Establish a calendar and completion dates for awareness campaigns with pamphlets and suppression operations for targeted sectors.

Enhance cooperation, strengthen ties and pursue bridge-building activities with the community 

  • Maintain ties and interaction with various resource workers and organizations and be a part of the excellent Lachine community dynamic.
  • The Elderly: installation of an intervention project and offering support to the elderly in need by PDQ 8. Involvement and dialogue with a multitude of local partners to ensure success.
  • Participation in the new Public Safety Committee of the district, Comité d'Action en Sécurité Urbaine à Lachine (CASUAL),
  • Comité spécial de qualité de vie de St-Pierre (St-Pierre quality of life committee) as well as all round-tables in the district.
  • Annual organization of the PDQ 8 Golf Tournament in collaboration with multiple organizations and participation of the Lachine community.
