Geographic responsibility allows the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) to get closer to local realities.

The entire police territory has been divided into neighbourhoods, each of which is entrusted to a local team under the supervision of a local commander. Geographic responsibility brings the police closer to the local citizens, improving their knowledge of the community and the community's needs.

With this approach, the neighbourhood police station is the lynchpin for neighbourhood concerns and needs.
