Non-Violence Squad

Unité sans violenceEvery day, at every school, violence happens. We want to encourage students in grades 4, 5 and 6 to make a commitment to reject violence and express themselves through the "Unité sans violence" (Non-Violence Squad) program.

In 2008-2009, the "Unité sans violence" program is being offered in 33 schools on the island of Montréal, in 75 classes with a total of 2000 students. We hope to extend the program to even more schools next year.

Expressing yourself is standing up for yourself!

The "Unité sans violence" program helps you:

Learn more and raise your awareness about different types of violence

Make a commitment to reject violence by signing a contract

Express yourself and stand up for yourself

 Engage in positive behaviour

React appropriately in response to violence

We want to help you become a good citizen by make you more accountable and helping you speak out for a non-violent society.

Ambassadors for non-violence

The members of Non-Violence Squad are ambassadors for non-violence in their schools, and they make a commitment to meet with other students to talk about the program. They wear special t-shirts and hand out reward vouchers to students whose behaviour promotes peace. Each voucher shows the name of the person whose behaviour is being rewarded, a summary of their actions, and the name of the Non-Violence Squad member who issued the voucher.

All the students in each who receive a reward voucher will have their names announced in class at the end of the week. At the end of the month, two Non-Violence Squad prizes will be handed out to students drawn at random from among all those who received a voucher and the students ambassadors.

If your school would like to participate in 2009-2010, please contact the community relations officer who visits your school!
