Theft in a Vehicule

A theft in a vehicle is when someone steals something from someone's car, whether or not they damage the car in the process.

Bags, compact discs and laptop computers left on the seats are an invitation to thieves. A few seconds is all they need to get away with your belongings.

Prevention tips

  • Never leave anything in sight in your car
  • If you have a laptop, get a cable lock that lets you lock it in your trunk
  • Park in well-lit areas
  • Always lock your doors and close your windows
  • Put your belongings in the trunk before you get to your destination
  • If you are robbed, and witnessed the theft, call 911 immediately and describe the thief and his/her escape route
  • If you did not witness the theft, you can file a police report online on our website
