Thefts of tires in garages or storage lockers : crime prevention is everyone’s responsibility

21 october 2015

With the return of the fall, the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) reminds you the following tips to prevent thefts of tires in garages or storage lockers:

  • Ensure that all exterior doors of your building are locked at all times.
  • Never allow strangers to enter the building as you are leaving or entering.
  • Do not accept to open the door for strangers standing at the entrance door asking you to do so. Leave it to those who are expecting visitors to unlock it for them.
  • Be aware of anybody hanging around the door – or that of the garage – who looks disinterested but makes a dash to hold open the door as you are leaving.
  • When a stranger or someone with questionable behaviour are seeking to enter your building, report it to the person of authority or the security guard so they can take appropriate action.
  • As you are entering or leaving the indoor garage of your building, make sure the door is closed behind you.

If you witness a questionable behaviour, dial 9-1-1. If you have information to pass on, you can also communicate anonymously and confidentially with Info-Crime Montréal at 514-393-1133.
