Territory served

The officers who patrol the metro carry out their duties through the entire indoor Société de transport de Montréal (STM) network. They patrol from the metro exit (or indoor entrypoint) to the platforms, including the walkways and businesses abutting certain stations.

To understand the scope of their deployment in the metro, the full extent of the public transit system in Montréal must be considered.

Extent of the network

  • 64 metro stations in the territory of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM)
  • on 4 different lines
  • connected to 171 day buses and 20 night buses

Statistics

  • 700,000 subway trips, on average, each weekday
  • 364 million trips per year
  • Over 30 km of corridors used daily by over 500,000 people
  • 81% of subway passengers and 95% of bus passengers are Montrealers

Use of the network

Public transit is one way helping Montrealers and visitors get around the city while reducing their dependency on cars.

It is also the best way to get to major events in Montreal (fireworks, Grand Prix, festivals, etc.).

In addition, the network is surrounded by a number of park-and-ride facilities.
