Electronic devices

Keep a close eye on your personal electronic gadgetsKeep an eye on your electronic devices, because others may be eyeing them too!

Please be careful in your travels around the city and keep an eye peeled on your surroundings when you are in public places, because the theft of electronic devices continues to be a matter of concern for the police service.

It is mainly public transit users and teenagers who are confronted with this reality, and the techniques used by the thieves are often the same: they ask you for the time even if you have no watch on and suggest that you to check on your device, they ask if they can borrow your phone to make a call, they bump into you in order to pickpocket you, and so on.

Here are a few tips to avoid finding yourself in this unfortunate situation.

Prevention tips

  • Be alert as you move about the city
  • If you are a teenager, travel with friends
  • Adjust the volume of your music so you can hear what is going on around you
  • Stick to well-lit places where there are lots of other people
  • Protect your belongings by keeping them hidden whenever possible
  • Be especially careful in crowds or when someone bumps into you
  • Take down the IMEI number of your device (you can find it by entering: *#06#)

Call 9-1-1 immediately if you have been robbed, or contact your neighbourhood police station. Students should also inform their school office.
