Winter driving

Drivers - avoid winter's traps

  1. Winter drivingWinter is slippery! Keep your distance, reduce your speed and announce your intentions early, because when the weather is cold, tire adherence decreases.
  2. Distance between vehicles. No matter how fast you are going, it is recommended to always keep a safe distance between your vehicle and the one in front of you, leaving at least two seconds - more if the weather is severe.
  3. Snow. Before taking to the road, make sure to remove the snow from your windows, wind shield wipers and the headlights of your vehicle. As an example, snow left on the roof could suddenly detach, affect your visibility or that of another driver and cause an accident.
  4. The law is clear - use Winter tires. From December 15th to March 15th, taxis and passenger vehicles registered in Quebec must have four tires specifically designed for winter driving, as they add to the adherence of the vehicle on snow-covered or frozen roadways.

Not respecting these safety regulations increases the risk of collision and exposes you to fines.

To act against the following rules constitutes a violation.

Fines

To follow another vehicle at a dangerous and unreasonable distance.

$156

This prohibition also applies to Quebec car rental companies.
