Role of the neighbourhood road safety officer

Agent de quartier en sécurité routièreThe neighbourhood road safety officer acts as a spokesperson and resource for traffic and safety on the roadway networks of their district.

Their duties include:

  • identifying dangerous places and problems affecting traffic or road safety in the district which they serve, and to propose solutions;
  • informing the Poste de quartier's chief about the concerns of the district citizens;
  • bringing support and expertise to police officers:
    • methods and tools for the Highway Safety Code
    • solution techniques for problems
    • interventions
    • partnerships
    • adaptation of SPVM programs to local needs
    • development of local programs
  • helping to enforce the laws and regulations of road safety (speed detection operations, issuing tickets, analyzing accident scenes, etc);
  • to work closely with district technicians in order to identify long term solutions;
  • to coordinate brigadiers scolaires management (calendar of evaluations, necessary measures to decrease dangerous intersections, school crossing locations, etc)
