Semaine de la Police 2008

May 10 to 18

May 5, 2008 - Sur la route, pour la vie is the theme chosen for Police Week 2008. The activities organized by the SPVM's 33 PDQs from May 10 to 18 focus mainly on this theme, with something of interest for everyone, and different activities in each borough.

Police Week is traditionally an opportunity for the police service to hold events that highlight a matter of specific concern to the police and the community they serve.

Activities for everyone

SPVM Police Week activities are taking place in PDQs all over the city. Please check our activity calendar to find out what is going on in your neighbourhood. A whole variety of activities is in store for you: seniors dances, family parties, workshops in schools and open house days in the PDQs - there's a wide choice.

The closing celebration for Police Week 2008 will be held in Sunday, May 18, at Carrefour Angrignon.

History of Police Week

Police Week was instituted in 1970 by the federal Solicitor General, in partnership with the provincial Attorney Generals. In 1971, Québec instituted its own Police Week in collaboration with the Association des directeurs de police du Québec.

These are the themes from recent years:

  • 2007: Behaviour is everyone's responsibility
  • 2006: Partners in safety
  • 2005: Police and community: a mutual and respectful commitment
  • 2004: In our neighbourhoods, public security brings us together in the heart of the action
  • 2003: Police and citizen: renewed public security
  • 2002: Police and citizen: together toward an even safer Québec
  • 2001: Police and citizen: a new look at your protection
  • 2000: The community policing approach: a lasting solution
