Selection criteria

To become a police cadet, you must meet the following conditions:

  • be enrolled as a full-time student at the college level (general or technical) or university
  • be a Canadian citizen
  • have no judicial record
  • have a functional knowledge of French
  • have a working knowledge of English
  • have significant work or volunteer experience  
  • be prepared to work on stand-by duty an average of 35 hours a week (days, evenings, nights with a few exceptions, weekdays and weekends), from the beginning of June until the end of August
  • succed the selection processus

In 1991 the SPVM made a commitment to provide equal representation within the police service by voluntarily adopting an equal opportunity program for police personnel.

The SPVM invite aboriginal candidates and people from other visible minorities to submit their candidature in order to improve representativity.
